yoga isn’t about rigid rules or regulations, but here are some things to keep in mind so that we all have a good time…
please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled class time.
This will give you time to get signed in, set up and settle into a quiet, centered space. It will also allow you to meet and greet your fellow yogis and yoginis…you might be surprised how many awesome friendships start on a yoga mat!
it is important for your own yoga practice to be on time and to stay for the entire class.
Our classes offer an established sequence of postures that build in a specific way from the moment we step on to our mats. The beginning and end of class are particularly important parts of this sequence and it’s important to experience (and enjoy) the entire process.
if you are late, please enter quickly and quietly.
Sometimes life just happens. We all run a few minutes late once in a while, so we do allow entry up to five minutes after the scheduled start time of a class. On these occasions, please enter quietly and in a way that keeps distractions to a minimum.
if you ever need to leave class early, please let your instructor know before class.
We suggest that you set up near the door to minimize class disruption and take time in Savasana (relaxation) prior to leaving, as it is an essential part of the yoga practice to allow the body and mind to integrate the work of the session…and besides, it just feels so good!
please mention any pre-existing injuries, illnesses or medical conditions to your teacher before class.
this will allow us to help you modify your practice for safety and effectiveness.
be well hydrated before class, and continue to hydrate after your session.
In many of our classes, you will experience a good sweat that will help you to rinse and detoxify the body. In all of our classes you will practice poses that help you clean out your lymphatic and immune systems (just like a good massage!). You will want to replenish yourself after class with water or an electrolyte drink to keep the detox process going…and no, wine and beer do not count.
you will want to practice on an empty or nearly empty stomach.
Every body is different, but it is advisable to allow 2-3 hours for digestion of a large meal before practicing. Having a light snack about an hour before class is an option to help regulate your blood sugar and energy levels if it has been several hours since your last meal. Fruit or granola bar = good idea; that three pound burrito = bad idea.
if you have a mat, towel and water bottle, please bring these, too.
If not, you can rent or purchase a mat at the studio. we have filtered water available to fill your bottle.
please turn off any cell phones, pagers or devices that might make noise during the class.
We’ve all had it happen to us from time to time, but that ringing cell phone during Savasana is no fun for anyone.
please refrain from wearing perfumes or strong smelling fragrances.
We like smelling good, too…but when everyone comes to class wearing their signature scent, it can be overwhelming and distracting, especially when we’re trying to breathe deeply.
always work at your own pace and listen to your body.
Part of the yoga practice is respecting and accepting where we are on any given day. There is no struggle, fight or competition — no need to “grab the bull by the horns” — after all, grabbing the bull by the horns is kind of a crazy thing to do!
