an early morning S-T-R-E-T-C-H. lots of flow + hip openers.

a mini-what?

Friday, January 6th, 2012

we’ve got lots of new stuff coming your way this year…starting tomorrow at 10 a.m.! we are super-excited about the latest addition to our saturday FLOW classes: mini-workshops!

what’s a mini-workshop? it’s a quick little breakout session on a couple of specific poses…a chance to ask questions, practice proper alignment and deepen your understanding.

the best part is, these will take place right in our regular 10 a.m. class…we’ll just take a few moments to look at, play with and explore the poses in greater detail than we do in a regular class setting. you’ll get your FLOW on and learn something new, too!

each week we’ll practice a new pose or set of poses…here’s the line up!

    january 7 – dog poses (up-down-flip)
    january 14 – warriors
    january 21 – hip openers
january 28 – the plank family
    february 3 – forward bends
    february 10 – backbends
    february 17 – balancing poses
february 24 – upside down poses (inversions)

stuff i learned…

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

hey guys! there truly is no place like home…i can’t tell you how great it is to be back in the studio with all of you! i did, however, have an amazing time in NY.it was an honor and a privilege to be part of the incredible assisting team at last week’s Baptiste Level 1 teacher training. i learned more than i ever could have imagined. here are just a few takeaways:

    1. the answer to “how?” is always “YES”…stop figuring it out and just go for it
    2. fear, doubt and hesitation dissolve in the face of selfless service.
    3. don’t lie awake worrying about bears…lack of sleep is a more realistic problem.
    4. never pass up a chance to practice handstands.
    5. there’s nothing sweeter than sitting around a big dinner table with friends.
    6. want to make life-long friends? be part of a high-performance team (see photo).
    7. smiles and laughter are spiritual experiences.
    8. if you have five minutes to spare: take a shower.
    9. when receiving coaching: listen, learn and be grateful…it’s the best gift you can get.
    10. if you had a really good time, it will take at least 4 days to get your feet clean and your laundry done.

most importantly, i had a great time giving back to the Baptiste community, which has given me (and by extension our studio) so much. Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga – created by Baron Baptiste – is the inspiration for all our classes at three dog and our community is part of the global Baptiste community through a worldwide network of studios and in our support for Africa Yoga Project.

if you’re curious (or secretly curious) about training with Baron, the answer to your question is “YES…YOU ARE READY NOW!”. in fact, there’s a sweet opportunity coming up next month in Estes Park, CO – The Baptiste Power Flow Immersion co-sponsored by Yoga Journal. about five of us from three dog are already going, so you’ll be in good company. today is the last day of early bird enrollment, so don’t wait, sign up now…figure out the details later.

one of the key reasons i love Baptiste yoga is it’s focus on inclusion…you don’t have to have a lot of experience, know Sanskrit or be able to twist yourself into Eka Pada Koundiyanasana I…but if you can, that’s cool, too. the practice meets you where you are…so does the community. all you have to do is say “YES!”.

but don’t take my word for it…come to Colorado with me!

tell me and i forget. teach me and i remember. involve me and i learn.

project PLAY: loosen up!

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

one of the most common requests we get in class is low-back and hamstring opening…it’s no coincidence.

most of us spend our days doing everything possible to tighten up these stress prone areas. whether it’s sitting at a desk, riding a bike, hiking up hills or worrying too much, we wind ourselves up on a daily basis…but, there’s nothing that says we have to STAY wound up.

join us for PROJECT PLAY on Sunday, August 14…we’ll work with techniques for unwinding, from yoga poses to exercises to massage. best of all, we’ll give you tricks that you can use everyday…even the ones you don’t make it in for class.

the best part is…100% of your class fee will go toward our mentorship of Africa Yoga Project teacher, Francis Mburu, who works in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya. Francis is bringing yoga, peace and community to his classes and continues to serve more and more clients each month. we are so inspired by him!

p.s. you may have noticed that we are moving in a new direction with PROJECT PLAY…it’s true. in response to member feedback, we are going to be covering a wide variety of the yoga topics you want to learn about. in September, we’re going to spend an hour discovering how to take your yoga off your mat…in october, we’ll be focusing on backbends for back health. hope to see YOU there for all of it!
